1. The legal Metrology Act, 2009
It is the Central Government Act implemented by state Government. As per provision of this Act each and every weight, measure, weighting and measuring instruments are compulsory to get verify and stamp by Legal Metrology Department and also as per Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011. All the packages must have the declarations on it mentioned in these Packaged Commodities.
2. Packer / Manufacturer / Importer Registration
As per the provision in Legal Metrology Act & Rules every packer or manufacturer of Packaged Commodities has to get registered by Legal Metrology Department Government of India. Every importer of weighing instruments also has to get import license by Legal Metrology Department Government of India.
3. Weights & Measures Mfg. / Rep / Dealer License under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009
A) Every manufacturer of weights and measures and weighing instrument has to get manufacturing License by Legal Metrology Department.
B) Every dealer of weight/measure and weighing measuring instruments has to get dealer License of Weights & Measures by Legal Metrology Department.
C) Every repairer of weights and measure has to get repairer License of Weights & Measures by Legal Metrology Department.
D) These licenses are mandatory to get renewed in due period.
4. Model Approval Of Weights & Measures
As per the provision in the Legal Metrology (Approval of Models) Rule, 2011, Every manufacturer of weighing scale, weighing instrument or measuring instrument has to get Model Approval Certificate by the Legal Metrology Department, Government of India, to ensure the Metrological and Technical characteristics.
5. Directors / Partners Nomination Of The Company / Firm
As per the provision in Legal Metrology Act/Rules made thereunder, any manufacturer/packer can get done the nomination of any single director/partner of that company/firm by legal Metrology department. By doing this director/partner nomination the benefit is that the compounding fees imposed against the company/firm for compounding the offences for the case against them will be imposed against that only single nominated director/partner instead of all the directors/partners of that company/firm, which helps to reduce the compounding amount imposed against them.
